Overview: Lullaby is an experience of book designed to be tactilely delightful, nostalgic, and, mentally soothing for human children. With layer upon layer of hand stained chocolate leather, serpentine emdr-inducing swimming Koi fish drawings, deep midnight blues, silvery irridecent constellations, antique spoons, poetry, and wispy string - the book, for two little hands, is to be slowly flipped through and enjoyed before bed. To be used while The Ahn Trio's 'Lullaby For My Favorite Insomniac' plays in the background.
The story told in this book is that of the Pisces constellation finding their other half. It's a made up story and I'm not a Pisces. The piscies fish must go through dozens of fish before he meets his partner - It's quite an alluring tale. I fell in love with the idea of watching fish swimming in the stars as a means of falling asleep - dreamy iridescent fish made up of milky stars. I was suffering from insomnia at the time and sheep just weren't cutting it.
The book is meant to be read along with a violin song by The Ahn Trio called Lullaby For My Favorite Insomniac. Lyrics written on the underside of each page are those from Eric Whitacre's beautifully enchanting choral song sleep. Splashes of silver paint on translucent filmy paper sit between the pages of the fish.
I hand drew the illustrations and cut out the pages into interesting organic shapes! After the pages were done and exactly how I wanted them to be I scanned them into photoshop for editing. Once done, I printed the pages out, cut them down to size, and sewed them together.
"Follow the paintbrush with your eyes while not moving your head; it forces you to use EMDR which is a therapy to calm anxiety, similar to watching fish swim." This information was part of my inspiration behind the Pisces fish before-bed tale.
